Gold Coast Debating Competition

Inexperienced and experienced Years 7 to 12 Varsity College debaters are encouraged to take part in the Gold Coast Debating Association's annual competition. The competition runs from the end of Term 1 to the end of Term 2, with finals held in Term 3. As part of a debating team, students are coached by teaching staff and compete against other local schools with the aim of igniting a love of advocacy and logic in competitors.

From debating, students gain extensive public speaking experience, engage with current local and global issues, learn to advocate from a variety of perspectives and make friendships with like-minded students.

Poetry Slam

The Varsity College Inter School Poetry Slam is an increasingly popular event which gives Varsity students and students from surrounding high schools an opportunity to share their passions, stories and truth through their original poetry on a range of intriguing topics. Students in Years 7 to 12 perform their poems to a large audience, including adjudicators from a number of professional settings.

Public Speaking Competition

The Annual Varsity College Senior Campus Public Speaking Competition sees students from Years 7 to 12 competing in year-level heats before each of the champions compete in a cross year-level grand finale. The competition continues to grow with over 40 students competing last year.

Teachers from a range of faculties volunteer their time to adjudicate and support our talented students. We also enjoy hosting the many parents, siblings and friends who come along to support not only their own children, but many other talented students also.
